Historical Publications

The Norfolk County Historical Society offers several publications relating to the history of Chesapeake, as well as the surrounding area. These titles may be purchased at the Chesapeake Central Library.

Chesapeake, A Pictorial History. By Charles B. Cross Jr. and Eleanor Cross, 220 pages, illustrations, index, several hundred photos of Norfolk County/Chesapeake from 1607 to 1985. Reprint 1999. Some illustrations never before published and an excellent area history. $34.95.

The Battle of Great Bridge. By Elizabeth Wingo and Elizabeth Hanbury. Revised Limited edition, 1997. 26 pgs., softbound. Voyages of Frederick Williams ed. by Eleanor P. Cross, 1972. 175 pages, illus., index. Memories of a German who went to sea in 1818, became a Norfolk resident in 1820, and crossed the Atlantic 137 times in his career. $1.50 softbound.
